Very often retired telephone men would attend these shows and bring items to sell. My first telephone sign was purchased at a show for ten bucks in 1972. It resides in my collection: the 1921 New Eng Tel & Tel 16"x16" No 102. Firmly believing that "collecting" requires being educated in what you collect and not being hypersensitive to values, I set about researching the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co obtaining company reports and a complete bound set of Telephone Topics magazines. I learned the company has always had a very strong identity management focus and produced scores of signs reflecting the company's history.I
