About llarnedCollecting New Eng Tel Telephone signs came naturally while I was collecting New Eng Tel glass insulators and exhibiting insulators at …shows. Very often retired telephone men would attend these shows and bring items to sell. My first telephone sign was purchased at a show for ten bucks in 1972. It resides in my collection: the 1921 New Eng Tel & Tel 16"x16" No 102. Firmly believing that "collecting" requires being educated in what you collect and not being hypersensitive to values, I set about researching the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co obtaining company reports and a complete bound set of Telephone Topics magazines. I learned the company has always had a very strong identity management focus and produced scores of signs reflecting the company's history.I
