This beauty has everything intact except the iron. There is a "Murphy's Best Baggage in St. Louis" decal and a few worn RR express stickers. The lock is Atkinson & Long "Everlasting" T6663 and the leather handle is stamped 36. I believe this to be from the 20's, so I'm not sure of the handle stamp. There isn't much info out there about Murphy's either.

hi can you please tell me if this chest has a hard almost leather like skin on the outside ,i have been given a chest similar and a having trouble finding how to restore the out side thanks
The exterior of your trunk is made out of a material called "vulcanized fiber" -- a paper cotton blend made to protect the trunk. Not much you can do to it other than clean it with a bit of soapy water and cloth. Other than trying to match the scratches with a colour match not much can be done in terms of restoration, unless you paint over it...
