I found this puppet in a pile of trash . I've done some research , and I think it's an old punch puppet. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Could it be a cane topper?
I guess I should have added that its attached to a long stick with a ball at the end of it. I'm pretty sure it's a stick puppet! Thanks anyhow!
He is Punch from Punch and Judy . Called Puppet on a stick . Very nice ! Hard to date him since they were made over long period of time and still make them . He looks to have age to him maybe 1950's ? Hard to tell with out holding some things in person :-)
Thank you!! He was such a great find!! I'm looking to find an original costume for him. He is going to be a Christmas gift for my mother.. She adors him .. but he must gsve the proper attire .. can anyone point me in the right direction for somethong like that?? Thanks for the info..
