Vintage Ammunition Rocket Box ???

This is a large wooden box that I picked up at an estate sale & I thought it was unique. According to the printing on the outside it held rockets of some kind. It is between 3 & 4 foot tall and about 24 inches wide. It has a heavy rope loop handle on one end. Would love any info available as to age & maybe if it was a military piece or where it would have been used. My husband & I love all things odd ~ guess that is why he loves me.
