This is a U.S. military ammo box for mortar cartridges / shells. The box is stamped with the military code markings in white print. The box is 11 " long, 5 1/2" wide, and 16" high and has a hinged lid with rubber gasket. The closure bracket is on one short end.
The markings are as follows:
National Stock Identification Number is 1310-01-022 7680-B642
8 CARTRIDGES 60MM HE (High-Explosive) M720 W/FUZE MO M734
FOR M224 MORTAR / LOT MA-83C026-0064A
Short side is stamped - CONT PA70 and the box type PA-70
Embossed in metal at bottom is the manufacturer S.C.F which is Samsonite Commercial Furniture Industries (a dvivision of the trunk, suitcase, and lawn furniture manufacturer) - Circa early 1980's
