We found this partial, wooden wheel while we were stationed in Italy. It appears to be quite old. It was found in a trash pile destined for burning outside an apartment we had rented in the country. The building was still under construction. I especially love the handmade wooden inserts in each cross member.
I've seen pulleys in old water mills made in this style but of course it could be other style mills. They ran with wide leather belts couples at the ends with heavy duty "staples".
