    VtButternut
    (1 item)

I found this in a silent auction in Vermont. Would love to hear any thoughts about it's creation. 9x6, 4.4 base, and 3.5 top. It has a leather drape over the top, adhering closely to the top of the neck and pulled down with a horsehair cord? At the top, it is so smooth it becomes part of the vessel. Inside has black drips and no apparent markings on the bottom. It's simple and beautiful. I'd love to hear about the significance of the markings. Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

It's a contemporary decorator item, made to look old, evidenced by the fact that it was made from a commercial stoneware clay, and thrown on a potter's wheel. So most likely the only significance of the symbols is that the potter thought they would help it sell.
