Old Pottery Hanging Planter/Insulator

Old pottery with some type of mark I can't make out,has small holes at bottom for what I believe is hanging the pottery,inside unglazed,this came out of an estate sale years ago,just need to know something about it,who the maker was,what the mark is,almost look like a winged human.
