1879 - 1929
Since 1879 the Romanian Tobacco Monopoly got managed by "Regia Monopolurilor Statului", a special division of the Ministry of Finance.
RMS administred 6 tobacco factories.
The first Romanian cigarettes were probably produced at Bucuresti Tobacco Factory at the beginning of XX century. Timisoara Tobacco Factory started producing cigarettes in 1920.
The other tobacco factories (Iasi, Sfantu Gheorghe, Cluj) were producing mainly cigars, pipe tobacco and snuff tobacco.
In February 7, 1929 a royal decree established the "Cassa Autonoma a Monopolurilor", that included the tobacco monopoly too.
