This is a 24K gold and Ceylon ruby brooch from the late 1800's. It's about the same diameter as a US quarter, and has beautiful detail. It was purchased in Ceylon when my great, great, great aunt worked there at a mission in some capacity.

I'd love to hear about the type/style of work.

Edit: added a couple of photos. Pin appears to be very basic and attached with non-gold solder of some variety - there's a bit of corrosion/tarnish on the hinge area of the pin.

Well for starters...we need to see the back and more angles of the way the pin was made...thanks

The pin was made in the Victorian Era...probably in India. And is that a "C" clasp on the back to hold the pin down or does it have a locking device?
