This is marked "From a Painting 1906 Wolf & Co. Phila." It is printed on paper embossed to resemble canvas. The colors are strong with a somewhat glossy finish. The print is 14" x 26" and appears to have been in this frame a long time. I refurbished the frame due to the loss of the plaster. I picked this up reasonably at a flea market over the Memorial Day weekend. Any idea of the artist? It appears to be in the Boileau style.
Does James Ross Bryson ring a bell? After quite some time on the computer, I'm pretty sure Bryson was the artist. He often painted a young woman strongly resembling the one in my lithograph. Maybe with more digging I'll find her name.
Reminds me of Asti?
Dave, it sure does make one think of Asti's work. Bryson studied in Paris where Braun Clement published Asti's work. Wolf & Co. published this color lithograph with a 1906 copyright date in Philadelphia, Pa. It's interesting to note that we were more conservative with acceptable female flesh exposure at the time in the U.S. Thanks for encouraging me to dig further.
