I know very little about this case, I bought it from a sale room in the Scottish borders purely because I loved it and I'm just curious about how old it is and any other information anyone can tell me about it.
It's dimensions are 90cm x 50cm x 30cm and from looking at it I believe it has a pine and plywood caracas with beach or ash strips on the outside and shaped metal corner protectors possibly brass? Locks are CHENEY England.
I look forward to finding out anything anyone could tell me about this case.
You have a lovely "Bentwood Trunk" as the English like to call them. Dates from around 1910 to 1930. Birch ribs were steamed to form fit. This is an actual "steamer trunk" -- made to fit under a ship bunk, although the "not wanted" sticker applies to it being stored in cargo on the voyage. These are common trunks and are European, this one being made in England as many were. Nice example of a reliable traveling trunk. Thanks for the post and welcome to Collectors's Weekly!!!
Thank you very much, I didn't realise the dimensions of the funk were so important. Also didn't expect it to be so old! Thanks for responding so quickly pleased I know a little more about the lovely trunk I found, will definitely use Collector's Weekly to find out about anything else I come across, my parents are already asking about stuff they have lying around :)
