The item was located in the South Bronx of New York City about 18 inches. Measuring about 18 inches long, the item appears to be hand carved from a very hard wood (maple).
I think that it displays intricate carvings of a horse head, lotus plants and other geometric items.
Having said this, I have absolutely no idea as to what this item is.
Can anyone tell me the origin, use and or purpose of this item?

Upon further investigation, I was given several different sernareios as to the names and or purposes.
The most likely is that pertaining a paraphnilia associate opium. It was carved intrinsicly for the well to do Asians. It was mainly to drain opium during a cureing process.

I have no idea what it is, but I like it. I don't think it is maple. It looks more like chestnut.

The item is intricately carved on all sides. Therefore, the notion that it is a decorative part of a crown ceiling isn't particular.
Seversl years ago, I took this item to the Antique Roadshow and they had no ideas.
