Reclining lion Bowie knife

Origin: G. Woodhead NEW YORK 1850s

Style: Reclining lion pommel (generally with casket style hilt)
Cast in german silver

Not sure if this is horn/ivory/bone

Looks as if the blade was decorated once possibly said AMERICA?

Questions:

Should I try and replace the hilt? Any suggestions on where to order/have made.

Any other details if any.
