Button? Button? Where do you come from?

I think this is one of several "buttons" for some kind of outer apparel. I have seen cuff links which are fashioned with a similar link attached to a perpendicular bar - but this item would require a larger button hole than those I have seen on cuffs.

The four sided "spear" tip on top looks a bit like something affixed to the top of some old military helmets. I am guessing they are an alloy containing brass. There are no military insignia visible on these items.

At one time these items were owned by a relative of the very few WW II pilots of the Polish Air Force which was based in England after the invasion of Poland. There is a very interesting book about the Polish Air Force, but I didn't see any photos containing images of these items.

I would appreciate knowing more about this item.
