Hi, Your small trunk was originally all covered with paper with designs printed on it to resemble tooled leather. You can still see traces of the old paper. These were made from the late 1860's through the 1890's by many trunk makers around the U.S. They were made in many sizes starting from about 20" up to about 34" wide and were usually just called packing trunks. They weren't very expensive trunks compared to most others of the time because of the simpler design, hardware, and less work. The metal bands and small round "rosettes" are not brass but made from iron and stamped tin. They usually had a fairly simple tray inside and were lined with paper. Some of these were made with wooden handles and some had leather handles. You don't find many of these with the maker's label in them so in that case it's usually impossible to tell who made it. I believe telling someone what their trunk is worth is too subjective and prices vary greatly on them based on condition, completeness, size, style, rarity, hardware styles, location, etc, etc. But they're fun to use and collect.
