We got this from a garage sale , but do not know what it was used for, or what you would call it.
It is made by a company called Reed&Barton but could not find any reference .
it is 29 cm long and 9 cm across the top
the stamp in the bottom V says reed&Barton 48
I couldn't find any reference to this basket, but I would guess it is for serving bread or rolls. - EPNS is electro-plated nickel-silver also called "hollow ware"
or even sliced toast!
This item is a cracker trough. Reed and Barton is one of the finest American silver companies. It was family owned until about a year ago, when it was sold to Lenox. Reed and Barton was located in Taunton, Mass. They made the medals for the Atlanta Olympic Games. One of the Reed family members was Secretary of Commerce under President Eisenhower.
EPNS is indeed Electroplated nickel silver, but both flatware and holloware can be EPNS. Flatware is what you eat with, like a knife or fork or spoon. Holloware is a serving vessel, like a tray or a bowl. ( It is hollow not flate). Hence the name.
