    hawkseye
    (5 items)

    Bought this piece a few years ago at an auction, just loved the detailing, no marks, not exactly sure of the material....definitely some type of Edwardian or Victorian utensile...

    any info would be of interest..merci!

      It is a meat fork - here is a similar one;

      Darn, AGH beat me to it! But I had to copy-and-paste three links...! If you do a Google image search for "decorative bread fork" you'll find tons more.

      thank you! I cannot find any markings on my bread fork- so elaborate and beautiful, a keeper!

      The link I gave and the three links Kydur gave are all "silver plate" examples. If yours doesn't have any hallmarks then I would assume it is also silver plated.

      Given the choice of calling this a bread fork or a meat fork I'd choose the bread fork, due to the wheat stalks on the handle. But then there's snakes (or maybe goose necks?) on the tines so that could indicate a meat fork. Either way I wouldn't be using it and would just have it for display!
