I recently acquired this box and am looking for help to identify it. It is 25" wide, 23" deep and 16" high. It is made of solid wood and is very heavy. The bottom of the box has the words," Federal Equipment Co." Stamped on it. Does anyone know any information about it? I can't seem to find another one like it anywhere.

Since the money drawer reminded me of a safe or a lock box or even a safety deposit box, that's the search I did online. You might find this article interesting...(about half way down - about the panels made by the Federal Equipment Co for the Post Office). http://postalmuseumblog.si.edu/2014/11/ It is puzzling, trying to figure out what it may have been used for: railroad, bank, library, police station, doctors office, something else...) An interesting find, nonetheless.
