I had a chair like this that was part of a parlor set which also included a rocker and a settee. It is Americal Empire from the mid-1800s. Some possible makers that used the same scroll design found in these are Joseph Meeks and Thomas Day, (or the school of Thomas Day). I would be curious to know in which part of the country you purchased the chair... I let mine go a while ago and now regret breaking up the set. I still have the settee and am looking to sell it.

I should also mention that I have been looking for similar items/matches since I purchased my set 13 years ago and have never seen another besides yours. Perhaps yours is mine that I let go. If it has been recently refinished and reupholstered and coming from the Pacific Northwest, I would imagine yours is the chair I once owned. If not, I would be very glad to see another like it, though I can't help with maker specifically.
