A rather Heavy Duty storage container. It measures 20" x 15" x 11" and belonged to a Master Sargent in the U.S.A.F. The curious aspect of the case is the 2nd set of clasps on the hinged side of the lid. I assume it was government issue from the stenciling but did it have a specific purpose, did it hold something cool?
The paint is in rough shape (somewhat better in normal light than in these pictures) I am curious if anyone has a suggestion(s) on preservation / restoration beyond sandpaper & a can of rust-o-lum.
    Thanks in advance

I notice the stenciling on the top is under the blue paint and the line of stenciling seems to run under the hasp. Starting with CAL (caliber abbreviation?) and ending in CTGS (Cartridges abbreviation?). The Master Sergeant's info is on top of the blue paint. I think this was a green ammo container configured so the top completely separated from the rest of the box, and then the hinges and hasp were added along with the blue paint to make a box for the personal use of the Master Sergeant.

Re-purposing old ammo containers is pretty standard practice in the military.

      Hi Chris-
I think I may have already thanked you by e-mail but wanted to make sure it was documented here. Your explanation sounds Spot On and appears to have answered the sandpaper/rust-o-lum question
      Thank you
      Doug
