      They look like slots for records. Love the lamp table, around 1972 or 3 it was probably imported from Italy. At the time there was a massive import from Italy, all the way to California and many businesses were set up at the time to sell all these wares, which included lamps, small tables and even coffee tables and statue lamps. I have started some collections under the loves for other examples.

      as i said previously it has been in the family 60 years that i remember its not from the 70`s

      Probably 1960 is the earliest. most of these lamps came from 1967 or so to the 1970's when they imported a lot of alabaster from Italy.
