    Not sure what these are. Found them metal detecting on an old railway that was built in the 1880's and tore out in the 1930's. About the size of a dime.

      These might be date tags from ties. Railroads would use "date nails" to mark when ties were installed. I am not aware of date tags, but they may very well exist. Are there any spike points on the bottoms of these that might suggest they were driven into wood or cut off of something?

      After a boxcar was loaded it would be sealed with these lead seals to show that the cargo had not been tampered with enroute.
