    (5 items)

wood and metal. height 4 1/2 inches. length 15 inches. width 2 1/4 inches. 3 holes, 2 have funnel shaped metal screens. middle hole has a straight piece of metal across the bottom, the metal piece slides to open and shut the hole. Under the funnel shaped screens are 2 screened holes. Anything going through the funnel screens would come out the bottom of the piece. Initially thought it might have been a kitchen item but the access to the holes seems a bit awkward for kitchen use.

This is called a "drone trap." It is used to eliminate excess drones, who don't collect pollen to make honey and are therefore considered a drain on the hive's resources, by preventing them from re-entering the hive. I've heard disputed claims that it can also be used to eliminate bee mites by denying infected bees entry to a hive. Much on Google.
