My Grandfather bought this for me (and a similar baseball one for my brother) from an antique shop when we were children.
It works totally fine. I've been doing a lot of research on it, and discovered that the original Monkey Bank was by Hubley. I've been told that this is obviously repainted, but that it is unclear whether it is an original or a reproduction.
Does anyone know how I can tell? I would love to learn more about it!
Someone suggested that I get it authenticated, but I have no clue whatsoever as to how I'd do that!

Sorry, but it is a most definite reproduction. The poor quality casting with rough texture showing minimal finish work and large seams or gaps is typical of poorly made modern reproductions.
Additionally, the large cross tip screw is modern.
Original banks were a quality made product and commanded high prices when they were made. Originals will show quality workmanship not found in this example.
Scott
