I would love to find out any information about what appears to be a WWII uniform in childs size. This is an olive green uniform that looks like it would fit a 4 - 5 year old. The jacket measures 18" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem, 12" across the waist and sleeves that measure about 15". The pants waist is about 20" around and a 20" inseam, so this is for a younger child. There is a tag in the neck of the jacket but it is so worn the it is hard to read much of it. The inside of the pants on the pocket has a name that appears to have been written in some sort of ink. The name is Leo Sellars. There are 2 arm patches; 1 single stipe chevron and 1 blue star with red & white border. It has 2 gold stripes at the wrist and all of the butons on the jacket have anchors. It also has a brown belt/shoulder strap.
Any information on this in regards to age, use, and value if possible, would be greatly appreciated.
You are correct that it is WW2 era.
The patch is for the Army Service Forces-- probably the unit patch that Leo's father wore.
During WW2 it was common and a patriotic show for children to wear these small sized uniforms. Girls would wear a nurse or American Red Cross uniform. I have seen many photographs of children in similar outfits and I believe that there is a book that covers the topic.
I have seen many of these in my years of collecting, but the survival rate seems to be much lower than what it was for the full size adult uniforms.
I'd expect this example to bring about $50- $75.
