This is a very cool silver cup & saucer that belonged to my grandparents. I suspect it was a gift to one of my grandparents from my grand uncle, who traveled extensively around the globe after WWII. As such, I suspect it was produced around the 1950s. It has no markings indicating it is made of silver, but tests strongly positive as silver. The cup, lid & saucer all have some engraving. The cup has a wispy cloud engraving around the rim. One side of the cup has the word "REMEMBRANCE", although the "N" is backwards. The other side of the cup has the Chinese equivalent " ?? " pronounced Ji Nian, and written the old style right to left. The saucer has flowering plants and a couple birds engraved on the top. The underside of the saucer has some Chinese, but it is difficult to decipher. The characters are oddly written. Perhaps with the method used it was difficult to write in the normal stroke order. The characters may indicate a name or a place. They appear to possibly be " ?? ". The vertical line in what appears to be ? is offset from where it should be, but ? (wang, or wong) is a common last name. The characters that appears to be ? (quan) is missing the stroke at the top, but I'm not certain what else it could be. ? means spring, as in an underground water spring, but could be a given name. That's all I've got. Very curious about origin.
