    I would just love to know more about this and how it got this way?! I found in a change jar and I have never seen one like this before. I tried to Google it but I am not sure what I am looking for exactly. If anyone could please help me thank you!

      New pennies like this one are made of zinc with a copper coating. If one of these pennies gets dropped on the ground and left for a while the acid in the soil will eat through the copper and attack the zinc resulting in pitted pennies like this.
