Sock dolls have been a part of doll culture for centuries.

At one time, they were actually most often made out of real socks, specifically socks that had outlasted their usefulness as foot protectors and warmers.

Contemporary sock dolls retain many of the dominant features of those other-century sock dolls.

These two sock dolls were an airport purchase in the 1980s.
