I love this bracelet I bought last year at a Estate sale, when I brought it home,I washed it,like I wash anything used I buy,and I noticed this smell to the bracelet. So I did some research online about plastics and I came upon Bakelite, and there were these tests to see if it was real.(very interesting),so I had 409 and I used a q-tip,and my q-tip turned yellow.
SO this has to be that. It is a wide bracelet, brownish color with different brown marble colors.I don't hink this is a butterscotch color, but I am not sure. I would love to find out more information on this and history.

Lots of internet info on bakelite - but I think you have scored a lovely old bracelet. Colors change over the years especially if it has been exposed to sunlight for long time. I know because I have a bracelet like yours when I bought it 15 yrs ago it was a bright green w/cream & brown swirl of colors and now it's darker except inside still shows original color. Butterscotch refers to the candy color - not what you have. It's just a description. Enjoy!!!!

Hello Valentino, thank you for the information,I thought it was Butterscotch but it is to dark, I think. I am keeping it, I know it is Bakelite, I did the 409 test on it.
      Thanks!
