This rocking chair was passed down to us by my wife's parents, who received it from an elderly couple in the 1940's. The elderly gentleman was an Army Officer stationed in the Iowa Territory in the 1890's. It's not known when the chair was originally purchased. It has been reuphostered. It is solid wood, I believe tiger-striped oak. Lions-heads are carved into the top of the arm rests. It is very heavy and VERY comfortable. There are no tags of any type. We are having a very difficult time identifying the style, and any information would be greatly appreciated.

Constructed from quarter sawn oak, probably white oak. Beautiful chair!

I just saw your post. You are not going to believe this but we own a chair that looks EXACTLY like the one you have. A few years ago I went to an antique store in a small town west from where we live. I had found the chair advertised on craigslist. So I bought it. Your chair is the first time I have seen one just like the one my wife and I own. It was advertised as a LAUGHING Lion chair. All I have and know about it is a partial label on the underneath side. I like mine so much I wish I had another.
