Vintage Marine Compass Labeled Texaco Wood Box Nautical

I have this wooden box compass and it appears to have been used by Texaco Oil and Gas Company. I am not sure if this was gift or a retail item that people could purchase. It is about 6 inches by 6 inches. Could anyone please help me out with some more information about this pieces; age, period, maker, country of origin, value, name of items, process used to make them, etc?
