I found a box of 7 plastic looking ornaments along with 5 satin ones. I can't find anything similar online. I don't know if they are celluloid, but one is burned and that part looks thin, like mica. With celluloid being highly flammable, this could have been the case. There is also one misshapen one from being too close to heat. Two parts were fused to make the balls and they were coated with glass glitter inside and some of it has come off inside, so they all sound like maracas. I know it's glass glitter, because I got some out of the hole. (how convenient!) If these were made in the US, their production may have been in the 20's or 30's if they are celluloid, I guess. I believe the US stopped making celluloid ornaments in the 30's due to the flammability and introduction of new plastics. If they were made in Europe or Japan, maybe they may be from the 50's because they continued until then. If anyone has ever seen similar ornaments, please let me know. Also feel free to correct me if need be. The color of them looks so resin-like to me, it's hard to think they are ordinary plastic. And I also wonder what the early satin balls were made of. They are have quite a luster. All in all, an interesting find. Thanks for any comments or ideas!
