A family Pendant That We Know Very Little About

My mother handed me this pendant one day because she knows that I collect jewelry and do genealogy. We know what side of the family it is from, but I have never been able to figure out it's age. If I could find anything like it I could probably figure who it belonged to. I just can't definitely match the style to anything like it.

I was polishing some silver today and thought, maybe I should take a polishing cloth to it. It looked very dull and like a base metal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually polished. It is almost 2" long, and about 1 1/4" wide. The stone is amber, what I have always heard termed "Butterscotch" Enough light comes through that I can see an insect, or something so it is not opaque. This side of the family lived in Pennsylvania since well before 1840.

I am new to this site. After posting this I found a section on Victorian and Edwardian jewelry. Some of the jewelry that was Victorian had a lot of the swirls and patterns of this piece! I can't tell you how many books I have gone through, online sites I have been to. I am thinking they only show the top line of jewelry and styles. This site, which I am loving more and more all of the time, actually has down to earth day to day styles, not just for the rich and famous. Thank you!
