I found this yesterday at an antique store. I liked the look of it and brought it home with me. Does anyone know about this ?? The First photo is the Front, the second is the Back, the third is a double page photo and the last is a photo of a couple of pages of articles. These Photos are Great, but I dont know anything about their History.

It looks like a children's newspaper produced to entertain children on their ocean voyage. My guess is that it wasn't actually printed on the ship. Maybe the publisher provided newspapers for all or many of the cruise lines and ships of the day. (of course, I'm completely speculating here, I've never seen this paper- but it seems a good guess!)

Well it looks like my reading skills are rather poor- there is a date on the first page. Maybe it was printed on the ship after all! Or perhaps they had them per-printed, and added the dates on board. (I didn't notice anything particular on the news page that was specific to a certain date)

      It was a Chicago newspaper.

Wow, packrat, I never would have guessed! I guess those poor tots on their ocean voyage DIDN'T get a great newspaper to read!
I guess Inter-Ocean meant halfway between the oceans?

      Some FYI stuff:
"The morning Chicago Republican (1865), sporting the motto “Republican in everything, Independent in nothing,” was edited briefly by Charles A. Dana and, in 1872, after passing through several hands, was renamed the Chicago Inter Ocean, an upper-class arbiter of cultural tastes. The Inter Ocean went into decline after 1895, when it became the property of Chicago traction boss Charles T. Yerkes, who used it as a tool in his political wars."

This newspaper section began as a full size "Illustrated Supplement" in June 1892. Mostly it featured illustrations of the Columbian Exposition, the World's Fair that was taking place in Chicago at that time. It occasionally featured some political cartoons as well. In December 1893 the supplement was transformed into a children's section and was reduced to this smaller size. The "Jr" section in the form seen here only existed for another 3 issues beyond the date you have. I have the majority of the two year run of these sections in my collection but not the one you own. Any chance you could help me complete my collection by letting me purchase this item from you? I can be emailed at my name (with the prefix "the") at Thanks.
