Hi - Not a lamp person, but loved this small VERY heavy lamp- I believe the frame has been repainted; but loved the size - almost 14 inches tall, the shade is 6 inches at the widest point
No idea of age? - but it has the orignal cord; should I be getting this rewired?
Yes! If you are going to use the lamp do have it checked. Get it rewired if you are not comfortable doing it. If you can retain the socket if original, I would get some new rayon covered wire in a colour to suit the lamp and you can also get new plugs that have the little acorn pattern on them. Just like the old bakelite ones. Then it will be safe to use and look just as it would have looked when made.
I don't agree that keeping the old cord and plug adds value. Being able to use the lamp safely has more value to me.
It is always a good idea to rewire lighting before you use it. Even if it looks like it has been done. I have bought pieces that were supposedly rewired only to find that someone spliced a bit of new cord onto the old stuff that was hidden up in the stem of the lamp. The old wire was nearly devoid of the insulation and would have been a house fire ready to happen if it had been plugged in as it was. It never hurts to get something rewired and it can cost everything if you don't. Soap box being put away now. ;o)
