Found this bible at my parents house, I usually end up coming home with a few 'new' heirlooms when I visit! It was quite easy to date, noticing all the Latin on the front page brought my attention to the Roman Numerals at the bottom, with a (mis) translated date below written in pencil.
It is beautifully but simply designed; the leather is tooled to frame the cover, with little flower designs on the corners. I would guess it is brass edging and clasp. I do not know where this came from, niether do my parents, the names written inside are not a family name, so my best guess is it was a gift or left behind on a visit from a friend. Printed in England by Oxford Press, sold by E. Gardner and Son, who sold other books between the 1830's and on.
    Thanks for looking!!

I think that this is perhaps a translation for those of High Church Anglican persuasion. It was produced during the Oxford Movement. It might have been used by some in the Oxford Movement. It is not a Roman Catholic translation. Note that the publisher is actually Oxford University Press. Note the location of E. Gardner and Son, Seller: "Paternoster Row" (i.e., "Our Father Row"), London. Here's an article on the Oxford Movement.

oh wow, interesting to hear so much about what was going on during that era, directly relating to this bible! The wikipedia site mentions a James Mozley, who is named and J and C. (not sure who the 'C' is) on the front page as well, so it seems to have been involved! Thanks for the link, very interesting read!

You're most welcome, Luisa! It is a fascinating period, and one can read Pusey, Newman, and Hopkins all day without flagging. I see this Bible in the catalogues of three universities/colleges. You might email one of them and ask for some background on this translation. Its targeted audience and its reception, etc.

"J. and C. Mozley" was a booksellers firm in Derby. They also sold this work. I see this Bible in the holdings of Johns Hopkins University Library:

I also see it in two other libraries. One of those below is tagged English format. Don't know what that means.
