I have had this trunk for about 30 years. I love wooden boxes of ALL sizes so when my mother found this one at a yard sale in Pennsylvania she bought it for me. I'm not sure what the writing on the front says. N George, N Georgia?? Is it a person? a place? I have seen some trunks that look like this one call immigrant trunks. I don't know for sure if this is one but I would love to know where to go on the internet to find more information. I have never done anything to it but the metal lid hinges need some work, one is broken. I use it to store quilts my grandmother and aunt made.

You have a lovely trunk. The term "Immigrant trunk" is a bit generic as any number or trunk types were used for immigration, so this could be one as could many others. Yours appears to be more of a blanket chest or dowry trunk with the owners name stenciled on it which was quite common. Looks to be about late to mid 1800's judging by the cast iron hardware and style. Lovely piece, thanks for letting us see it -- hope this helps a bit...
