just wondering what anyone can tell me about this lamp. it has no makers mark but made in u.s.a. and while i've found several similar, i have yet to find any that had a mirror mounted on them like mine.

I have the same lamp but without the mirror. Looks the same underneath and on top too. But this one has a plate with this on: VICTOR KENT (pty) ltd, approval certificate G.M.E.R. No 1, WOLF LAMP - TYPE 7RMBS.
And I can't help either of us.
By the way I'm from South Africa.

This is from another posting two (2) days ago in 'lamps'. These are called "Mine Safety Lamp". They were not used for light, they were fueled by Naptha and were kept at various sites in the mine where people were working as a safety measure, like the canary in the old days, if this light went out then the workers knew to get out because oxygen levels were too low. They were still used by the Navy in the 1960's when men needed to go into areas that had been sealed off or contaminated. The mirror on your lamp was to allow the lamp to be lowered into (pipe, hole, space) an area without needing to actually go in---by watching the flame in the mirror you could tell if there was enough oxygen or not because the flame would go out without enough oxygen but a wind or breeze would not blow it out. Neat thing with special adaptation......
