Bought this years ago and has been in storage.
It measures 12" long and the lid is 7" round
When I bought it; I thought it was for cooking - now I'm not so
sure.
I have seen 2 that are similar and it said "silent butler"
but what does that mean? What was it used for and about
what time period?
Appreciate any help.

As I recall, a silent butler was used to dump small trash (cigarette butts etc) into so trash was out of sight & dumped later.
