Glass grenade extinguisher--manufactured by Red Comet--Littleton, Colorado. Prior to the turn of the century (20th) most of these contained salt water, later they were filled with carbontrachloride. They were either thrown at the base of the flame or some came equipped with a fuse-link underneath that melted and broke the glass at a specified temperature. Carbon-tet and salt water were used because of low freezing temperature. Carbon-tet on an open flame created phosgene nerve gas and was cancer causing. Thanks--Doug.

I have come across and old glass grenade extinguisher with the liquid in it and also have the wall bracket with the pin intact. I was just wondering how much something like this would be worth. I am a firefighter, now a Fire Marshal. I can not believe that I actually had the opportunity to but this. Thank you
