One of the earliest media and pop culture mega-stars, Marilyn Monroe left behind a wide range of vintage collectible memorabilia. Marilyn's personal estate was first auctioned off by Christie's on October 27th and 28th, 1999 in a sale called "The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe," which yielded over thirteen million dollars. It had been in storage since 1962 when she died and included clothing, scripts, awards, furniture, kitchenware, and glassware Marilyn had owned.
A follow up sale by Julien’s in 2005, known as "Property from the Estate of Marilyn Monroe," consisted of the remainder of the items that were not put up for auction in 1999. To avoid authentication problems and the numerous fakes on the market, some collectors stick solely to collecting personal items from these two auctions...
However, apart from items Marilyn herself might have owned or used, there's a wide range of collectible Marilyn Monroe items on the market, including photos, prints, magazines, dolls, wine bottles, calendars, plates, and postcards.
