      I bet this is a fine piece, A photo of the whole trunk could really give this piece it's glory. =)

      Those are great photos. I am an amateur so I am guessing about age but I will tell you that those are hand made dovetails which would easily place this trunk before 1850, and those hand forged handles look to be from around early 1800's to even late 1700's. So I put form, style, construction and materials together and I am thinking probably early 1800's construction -- maybe around 1810 -- 1820. The nails appear to be "rosehead" hand made nails and if that is the case it could be late 1780's to 90's. Nice early trunk and I welcome corrections to my assessment.

      I am so grateful for input... I have been trying to figure this out for a very long time. It looks as though it has a family name in German written on both ends of it like they used it to ship their belongings.
