    Hardknocks…
    (1 item)

    An unusual granite "mantle clock"...
This is very heavy at around 50 pounds- depicting a soldier holding back a flag while overlooking a mother and child.
The bottom of the stone is rough and hand chiseled.
The inset phinney walker keyless rim wind clock doesnt really look original - its securely in place but offset and not flush with the stone...
Id like to know if it really was intended to be a clock or a funerary/ memorial stone?
And, which era it might come from?
The soldier's belt buckle is square with a distinct US on it which makes me wonder if its as old as the Civil War.
    Thanks for the input!

I don't know clocks, but by the soldier's standing collar and square belt buckle, I would guess at Spanish American War.
