This to was my grandmothers. I'm not sure how long she had it or if it is indeed an antique as I have been told by some. Anyone have any idea

Very Nice. I call them * vintage electric hurricane lamp * as lots of styles were made. Here are some for you to look around at, and see if yours is there or something similar. Remember to type to match the brass design, the footing, the shape of the body, and the lamp shade shape -- as lots of variations were made.
