Hi whilst beachcombing in ardentinny Scotland I came across this jar. Only the top was visible, I was chuffed to find the jar was still a full jar. Does anyone have any information on where and when it was made
I don't know if the actual name of the pottery is known but these jars were produced in Melling, near Hartley's Aintree factory. This pottery were Hartley's main stoneware jam jar suppliers to that factory.

Thanks for the information when I looked at other pictures of the jars they all say on the bottom genuine unless bearing wmp hartley's label does this mean mine is a copy or maybe it's from before Hartleys took over the company
As far as I can see, only the straight jar has that stamped. Yours, which is abit curved doesn't. My guess is that your kind is older, maybe late 1800's. After a while they became popular to collect and the stamp was added. The straight model looks more like 1920-30's. Just a guess. I'm sure it's genuine since they are so abundant. They were sold in millions so not much idea of copying.
