Another nifty prize from my 'temporarily local' Goodwill last weekend...I actually bought a 4pc mis-matched set of rather typical glass decanters (after finding them on 3 different shelves in the store) because between them they had these *five, matching* pewter tags hanging on them. (one decanter had two...go figure?)
They are all about 1-1/4" high and 2-1/2" wide, very nicely made and stamped, each bearing a pineapple (??) logo on its back reading "STIEFF PEWTER HISTORIC NEWPORT APPROVED". At the moment I've only had the time/ability for the most basic google search to try to discern what that means, though it does appear that the STIEFF Company was a rather longtime concern until maybe thereabouts the 1980's. I'm totally guessing these date from sometime much closer to their 'end' than 'beginning' -- further clues WELCOMED from anybody that actually knows more?!!
Nice find, and a treasure hunt too! :^D I like these liquor bottle tags, and have found them in pewter, sterling, aluminum, and porcelean. Plastic too but don't care for those! Thanks for showing these! :^)
THANKS so much billretirecoll for your kind comment -- and to dlpeterson, fortapache, Newfld, Collectables59, TassieDevil, and elanski for tapping the <love it> button! :-) :-) :-)
not too obscure or banal here!
