This is a pretty interesting book - very long and lots of excellent illustrations. it's sort of a physical anthropology - comparative study of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. a favorite subject of mine.

Who are the most interesting? Mayans?

Must be a fascinating book about the various tribes, interesting that the first photo is of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce, just watched a great old movie about him, I Will Fight No More Forever

the majority of my workers and friends and neighbors are Mayan - they speak Ma'am - mostly Santeros. but i saw some amazing things with the Quechua/Quichua throughout the Andes - jaw-dropping!

The book is definitely from a northern perspective, but pretty respectful [except they do some odd extrapolating and come to some bizarre conclusions].
