I was given these recently by my mom. In my grandmother's handwriting is "This was cut off a dead German soldier." I believe my grandfather was in WWI. However, the brown badge in the shape of a shield with a gold star and a red Indian does not look German to me. Also, the patch with red embroidered "153" has a button that has a crown on it. Can anyone help me identify what kind of insignia this is and if I should contact a museum or something? Thanks!

The Indian Head patch is for the 2nd Infantry Division (still used today). The chevrons are overseas service (US).

The "153" is German-- don't recall if the number represents a Division or Regiment?
