Phillip Hustis Original Illustrated Art 1939-40

Artist of ‘Army Antics,’ a syndicated cartoon carried by the Camp Roberts Dispatch, 1941+. “Phil Hustis, who draws ‘Army Antics,’ the new weekly comic based on army life to appear in The Dispatch, is a soldier in the ranks. He is a private in the 207th Coast Artillery, anti-aircraft, at Camp Stewart, near Savannah, Ga. His sketches and his humor are based on the actual experiences of himself and his fellow soldiers. They are typical of the new U. S. Army that has come into existence since the passage of the Selective Service act. Hustis gained considerable art training before entering the army but had not made art his life work. Leaving Cornell University in 1938, where he took the hotel management course, Hustis followed the catering business up into the War.
